Carmel, IN - May 8, 2012 – 21-year old Carmel resident, Alex Hall, has written an original screenplay called Methods of Revolution. The feature length movie will be cast and shot this summer in Indiana.
Hall says he will release the movie online in November 2012—for free. He states, “The movie has a very powerful message about my generation. I want anyone who wants to see the movie to have access to it.”
Hall will not receive any income from the movie. He has already secured the equipment and is raising funds for the remaining production expenses for actors, sets/locations, and other production costs through kickstarter.com, a crowd-funding platform for creative projects.
Recently, one of his written works, Jadusable, an interactive online story, gained over 6 million views. Hall’s production, Normal, was a winner at The Indianapolis 48 Hour Film Project, earning Best Screenplay, Best Male Lead and Best Music. Methods of Revolution follows four graduating students in their early 20s as they reach a similar realization about their lives: they feel like they aren’t living up to their potential. As their lives push them towards a path they never expected, the four begin a life-changing journey to find a greater purpose in life.
Pundits say Generation Y has sought refuge in apathy—with sophisticated technology and media tools at their disposal, and an obsession with pop culture. Other perspectives portray young adults emerging in the 21st century facing staggering student debt, a world economy turned upside down, and expectation after expectation to fill. Methods of Revolution aims to show another side to this equation and works to inspire a generation at large. Charming, a movie musical, is seeking funding on Kickstarter
May 4, 2011 – Muncie, IN – Dog Named Spot Media, an independent film production company located in Muncie, IN, is proud to announce its third feature length film. Charming is a fantasy musical about a fairy tale princess who is cursed at birth to only be attracted to jerks. The film combines light-hearted comedy with musical numbers, while poking gentle fun at the fairytale genre.
Currently Dog Named Spot Media is seeking funding for the project on Kickstarter. "Whereas our other two projects were self-funded, we are looking to improve our production values. This project is an ambitious one, which is why we are turning to our fans and the independent film community to assist with the funding," says Naomi Addison, business manager of Dog Named Spot Media.
Kickstarter is a website which allows independent creative projects to seek funding from the public, a process known as crowdfunding. Production companies such as Dog Named Spot Media post a video pitch of their project on the site, and the public can safely make a contribution at various levels, with different incentives for each level. If the funding goal is not met, no donor is charged and the project does not receive any funds. Charming's goal is $18,000.
Dog Named Spot Media has already completed two independent films: Finding Xanadu budgeted at $2000, and more recently Lightning in a Bottle with a budget of $6500. "Charming is the next logical step for us." said Benjamin Lancaster, president of Dog Named Spot Media.
The first public announcement of Charming was made at the preview screening of Lightning in a Bottle. Lightning in a Bottle stars Jenna Bowers as Elysia, a college graduate recruited by a secret organization that protects a small Indiana town from dark magical forces. Lighting in a Bottle was shot exclusively in East Central Indiana, including such regional landmarks as the Mounds State Park, the Paramount Theater, Prairie Creek Reservoir, the Kitzelman Mansion and the Irving Theater. Charming will also be shot in East Central Indiana, using local actors and crewmembers.
"Charming will really surprise people with the amount of work and the amount of storytelling it has going into it," says Dog Named Spot's creative director Lemmy Saylor.

April 2, 2011 – Muncie, IN – Dog Named Spot Media, an independent film production company located in Muncie, IN, is proud to announce the preview screening of its second feature film, Lightning in a Bottle. The movie is a fantasy action/adventure, defying typical indie film limits. The screening will be held in the Paramount Theatre Center in Anderson, IN on April 27th at 7:30pm. Tickets are $8 and will be sold at the door.
Lightning in a Bottle stars Jenna Bowers as Elysia, a college graduate recruited by a secret organization that protects a small Indiana town from dark magical forces. When people in the town start going missing, it's up to Greg (Josh Baker), the group's leader, and Ambrose (Eric T. Schroeder), a backwards living wizard, to stop the person or creature behind it. The film also stars Abby White, Sonja Rees, Rayna Long, Ben Rockey, Apollo Bacala, and Jim Dougherty.
The evening will also be accompanied by a handful of short films produced by friends of the project and an announcement of a future project from Dog Named Spot Media. Concessions will be available, and both the film's poster and soundtrack will be for sale.
Lighting in a Bottle, is a microbudget film shot exclusive in East Central Indiana, including such regional landmarks as the Mounds State Park, the Paramount Theater, Prairie Creek Reservoir, the Kitzelman Mansion and the Irving Theater. Director Benjamin Lancaster commented on the challenges of making a feature length fantasy film on a budget of $6,500. “We really believe that just because we’re working with a small budget, and just because we are working with an independent film, that certain genres of film shouldn’t be off limits to us,” he said. “I think if anyone looks at this film, and looks at our budget, they’ll be amazed at what we pulled off.”
Dog Named Spot Media’s Creative Director Lemmy Saylor is also looking forward to the screening. “It’s really fun to get to those key moments in a story when you really feel like the audience is going to be on the edge of their seats, hoping they won’t fall out before the end of the film,” he said. “It will really surprise people with the amount of work and the amount of storytelling that has gone into it.”

Indie filmmaker Tony Nguyen turns to online fundraising for his new film, GIAP AND THE LAST IRONING BOARD FACTORY, a short personal documentary set in Seymour, Indiana.
Oakland, CA – Director Tony Nguyen is turning to the Internet to raise funds for his new film, GIAP AND THE LAST IRONING BOARD FACTORY, a quirky and deeply personal documentary set in Seymour, Indiana about the mother-son relationship and the last standing ironing-board factory in America. For the past several years, the Internet has allowed artists to be more creative in their fundraising efforts, and many filmmakers have embraced online crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter.com.
With Kickstarter.com, artists have a set number of days to raise their funding goal, or the project receives nothing. Nguyen’s film has a 31-day fundraising window, and he was able to surpass his goal of $5,000 in 7 days. With two weeks left on his Kickstarter campaign, Nguyen aims to raise an additional $5,000 to complete and distribute the film.
“While I’m very pleased to have raised my initial goal so fast, there’s still a lot of costs associated with post-production and film distribution that I must cover, “ says Nguyen. “The great thing about Kickstarter is you can keep fundraising until your time is up. So you could potentially raise two or three times the amount you set as your original goal.”
Kickstarter.com requires artists to offer rewards to those who make a pledge. “It’s a fun model that allows others to really be a part of a project,” Nguyen noted. “For example, if someone supports my project at the $100 level, then their name will appear in the film credits and they will receive a copy of my mom’s delicious Vietnamese crepe recipe. Plus all the rewards at the lower pledge levels.”
Nguyen’s film GIAP AND THE LAST IRONING BOARD FACTORY is a heartfelt modern tale about the mother-son relationship between Nguyen and his mother Giap. Giap is a refugee who fled Vietnam in 1975 while two months pregnant. A single mother who has worked on the grueling assembly line for nearly 35 years, she is finally retiring. Set in Seymour, Indiana, the town John Mellencamp made famous with his iconic rock song “Small Town,” this short documentary provides an intimate look at life inside the last standing ironing-board factory in the United States. Nguyen captures his mother Giap’s last day at the factory and attempts to reconcile an unknown past in this quirky and deeply personal film that explores parental love and the refugee experience in small town America.
If Nguyen is able to raise the additional funds, he expects to deliver the final cut of the film by fall of this year.
